Sunday Update

Its Monday and its going to be a great day! I keep telling myself that.

Anyways, Starbucks is helping me this morning. I just gave the staff a rundown of our day today. Staff meeting at 10, lunch at 12, pull up carpet at 2 and come up with a plan for the children's center gutters. We may need some help with that one.

Sunday was a great day. This was our second week into the series "Encountering God". Yes Joe we stole the title from you. With respect.

Worship:
-Everlasting God
-Mighty to save
-Lord You're Worthy
-Lead me to the cross
-Came to my rescue

Amy killed lead me to the cross. I am married to a beautiful, smart, talented woman! Communion was right after that song, it was a beautiful moment.

I wanted to give you some details about the Upton concert I went to Friday Night. Me and my boy Jason Harrison got some sweet seats on the second row (thats why they teach you to network in college). This makes one of many times I have seen Upton, but this one was different. First the sound was rough...I had a hard time hearing his vocals, and it seemed so quiet. Turn it up. I was distract by the mix, seeing the musicians keep asking for more in the monitors (their in-ears were not up and running I found out thanks to David Berryhill). My breaking point came when just the drums on the floor tom was driving a beat, and the crowd was calling out to God, and then all you hear is some girl scream. Now she did say Hallelujah, but still she screamed. Right after that Jason Upton got up and started to talk about the presence of God and intimacy. He said we don't know what to do in the intimate times with God, but don't scream when others are having a moment in the presence of God. We must protect intimacy with God. He said during these moments of intimacy he even doesn't know what to do as a worship leader. We must begin to become intimate with God, when that happens we begin to learn how to trust him. That's what the Father is wanting, us to trust Him.
He said some things about worship that were incredible. I felt like the Lord was speaking straight to me. Here's the short version: we as a church keep looking and running after the crowds...trying this and trying that to "reach" them. Jesus ran from the crowds. He was about intimacy, not building crowds... We want to worship Jesus like he's the king, he didn't come as a king or leave as a king. He's not looking for a world's view of worship, he wants intimacy.

I asked David to pass along the recording from that night. I will post is if I can get it.
