You Use What?

Thursday is my Friday so I am feeling good today. I had a great meeting at Starbucks this morning and Pike Place brew is getting me through the day.

I found this tool which is really cool. If you are a want to be writer like me, then this is the way to gather your thoughts and not be distracted.

I get asked a lot about what resources I use for my charts for the band. I primarily use CCLI, its a great site because the charts are ready to go for you. You can change keys and even the arrangement of needed. I have found that some charts are not 100% correct. In that case just use your Finale program to correct that as need.

But the best resource I use is my ear. You have to take the time to train your ear. I know what your thinking, I'm not gifted by being able to play by ear...or I have to have the music or chart to play the song...take the time to train yourself. The only way one can develop this skill is by putting the time in. Hours of listening and then playing, playing and then listening. It takes work, but its worth it.

What really helps me map out songs is using the Nashville Number System. You can find more info here about it, I don't worry about what key I'm in. C = I; F = IV; G = V. When you hear those majors, its easy to spot if that minor is a minor ii or minor vii. Try it and see if it works for you. It will.

The media is done for our Encountering God series. Heres the look, good work Andrew.
